Top 5 Counselling Services in Thailand to Unravel Knots of Your Mind

  • Expertise & Qualifications - We made sure each service staffed licensed and experienced professionals trained in psychology or therapy.
  • Communication Skills - We paid attention to how therapists communicated during initial inquiries—whether they were understanding, patient, and respectful every step of the way.
  • Availability & Accessibility - We examined the ease of booking appointments, options for emergency support, and whether services offered both in-person and online counselling to accommodate different schedules.
  • Patient Care - We considered the overall care clients received, such as how therapists followed up with progress, respected privacy, and created a comfortable, supportive environment for sharing even the toughest feelings.

Life throws curveballs at all of us. One minute you’re cruising along just fine, the next you’re tangled up in stress or worries you can’t shake off, no matter how many “quick fixes” you try.

That’s usually when the thought pops up: maybe it’s time to talk to someone who actually gets it. Counselling can help you break from the noise in your head—whether it’s anxiety, confusion, or just feeling plain stuck.

Figuring out where to start, though, can feel like wandering through a maze. So, to make things easier, we’ve rounded up the best counselling services in Thailand that locals trust. Read on and get ready to meet your new support system!

How much does a counselling service cost in Thailand?

In Thailand, counselling services typically cost between 2,700 and 4,700 THB per 60-minute session, depending on the provider and session length. Some clinics offer discounted packages if you book multiple sessions in advance, while others may have slightly higher rates for premium services.

Tao Saengwan at Counselling Thailand brings both academic chops and extensive hands-on experience to the table.

Impressively, Tao’s not just holding an M.A. in Counselling Psychology—he’s also amassed years working with rehab centers, schools, and a diverse client base across Thailand.

One thing clients constantly mention is how comfortable Tao makes them feel, whether they’re struggling with addiction, burnout, or relationship troubles, or navigating major life transitions.

Being fluent in both English and Thai is a huge plus, and Tao’s versatility means he can connect just as easily with locals as with expats.

Furthermore, there’s a lot on offer here, with approaches that run the gamut from integrative psychotherapy and CBT to mindfulness and motivational interviewing.

Booking is straightforward and totally upfront, and a free initial Zoom consult makes it low-pressure to see if Tao’s a good fit before you commit.

The main downside? Slots, especially online, fill up fast—so you might have to wait a bit if you’re looking for something soon.

  • Integrative, evidence-based therapy techniques

Dr. Eric Mason’s got the credentials: American-licensed, decades of experience, and he’s just as comfortable with expats as he is with Thai clients. He’s been running Lighthouse since 2012, and it definitely feels like he knows what works here.

We like how they don’t just stick to standard therapy either. You can go in for life coaching, ADHD assessments (the testing is next-level), addiction support, and more.

Sessions never feel rushed, and people consistently say Dr. Mason actually listens—you’re not just another appointment in his calendar. We also appreciate the upfront approach to pricing.

You can see everything before you book, and if you need longer-term therapy, their packages do save you some baht.

Booking is flexible, whether you prefer Zoom calls or popping into their cozy Sukhumvit office. The atmosphere is laid-back; nothing clinical or off-putting.

If we had to nitpick, we did run into one double-booking. Gladly, the staff sorted it out quickly, so it didn’t become a headache.

Pros

  • Highly qualified and experienced therapist
  • Broad range of services
  • Comfortable for both expats and locals
  • Transparent pricing
  • Cost-saving packages
  • Flexible online and in-person appointments
  • Non-rushed sessions

Cons

  • Occasional scheduling glitches

Excellent support

“I had a great experience with Dr. Eric and received excellent support. Booking an appointment was very easy, and the admin staff has been very responsive during times of need. I particularly appreciated the fact that Dr. Eric recommended reading materials to further explore specific topics related to a transition I was going through.”

Great listener

If you’re looking for a spot for young people’s emotional support, Chawisa Chartsuwan really comes recommended.

Having wrapped up her MA in Mental Health Counselling and Behavioral Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and previously studied at Clark University, she’s clearly got strong training under her belt.

She’s focused a lot on adolescents—mainly 11 to 18—especially those handling self-harm, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma, and other emotional challenges. But she does some work with adults!

In fact, she’s one of the only couples counsellors in Bangkok offering therapy in both Thai and English for mixed-nationality couples. Clients even highlighted Chawisa’s patient, straightforward approach!

We also commend how their scheduling (including online sessions) is smooth, and the transparency on fees and services is a plus.

However, their website could do with a serious makeover—it has all the info, but the layout just screams early 2000s; a bit more user-friendly would help.

Pros

  • Highly qualified, internationally trained counsellor
  • Bilingual therapy
  • Specialized in youth and mixed-nationality couples
  • Transparent fees and clear communication
  • Offers both in-person and online sessions
  • Member of AMHCA (ethical standards)

Cons

  • Outdated website interface

Bilingual professionalism

“Excellent service from initial contact until the end of my sessions. Very professional with English and Thai speakers. They have their own building spread over several floors with a genuine focus on confidentiality. I found the quality of the counselling very high and I recommend BCS.”

Michael Chissick, Google Review

Timely assistance

“I found BCS helpful and supportive when I needed them most.”

Savinee Khanijou over at NCS Saphan Khwai is well-qualified, holding a master’s from Edinburgh and a double B.A. in psychology. She’s also a registered member of both ACT and the Thai Counselling Psychology Association.

She’s been around international circles, has worked in Bangkok’s international schools, and connects well with people from all sorts of cultures, making her quite versatile.

Savinee sees adults grappling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, self-esteem, and all the baggage that comes with relationships or life transitions. And she does rely on a mix of CBT, SFT, person-centered therapy, and emotion-focused techniques that get solid results.

Clients say she listens deeply and offers practical, direct guidance without being judgmental or distant.

NCS as a whole feels both established (they’ve been around for over two decades) and genuinely welcoming. Options for in-person, online, or even phone counselling sessions are a plus!

That said, we noticed that replies aren’t always within the 24-hour promise, which can be a little frustrating if you need urgent support. There’s also aren’t a ton of Google reviews out there yet.

Pros

  • Diverse credentials and international training
  • Specializes in both child play therapy and adult counselling
  • Multicultural understanding
  • Uses a broad range of evidence-based approaches
  • Offers in-person, online, and phone sessions
  • Client-centered atmosphere

Cons

  • Response times sometimes exceeds 24-hour promise
  • Limited Google/social reviews for reference

Dedicated support

“Amazing team! If angels were to exist, then, they are the angels!”

Unicorn Care with Dr. Stephanie Garner stands out for its genuine sense of safety and acceptance that’s built into everything they do—especially if you’re LGBTQI+, poly, CNM, or part of the kink/BDSM community.

It’s super clear you’re not just a tick-box for “diversity” here; Dr. Stephanie really “gets” this stuff, which probably comes from her deep background. She obtained a PhD from the UK, membership in the Australian Counselling Association, and over a decade of working here in Bangkok.

Her practice is totally focused on adults (18+), and she’s really easy to talk to. We also love her totally judgment-free vibe, along with a real focus on empowering you to live authentically.

On top of that, you get perks like a free 20-minute consultation, transparent rates, and even a discount for trans clients. Sessions are available both online and in-person, with plenty of flexibility for evenings and weekends.

The main thing you have to watch is that you need to book in advance (no walk-ins, no matter how urgent it feels), so you do need to plan a bit.

Pros

  • Deep expertise in LGBTQI+, CNM/poly, and kink-affirming therapy
  • PhD-level credentials
  • Longstanding presence in Bangkok
  • Non-judgmental environment
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Free consultation
  • Transparent pricing
  • Discount for trans clients

Cons

  • Strictly by-appointment only; no walk-ins
  • Exclusively adult-focused

Exceptionally supportive

“I met with Stef in her office for individual therapy five times to address some concerns I had. She was extremely understanding and caring, providing me with excellent advice that worked very well. She was always available whenever I wanted to talk or seek guidance. In my opinion, she is one of the best therapists in all of Thailand. She is professional, friendly, and compassionate, and her rates are reasonable.”

Tany, Google Review

Transformative therapy

“My experience with Unicorn Care has been transformative. I felt genuinely welcomed and understood. Dr. Stef creates such a safe, judgement-free environment. Her expertise in working with diverse communities really shines through. I’ve gained valuable insights that have significantly improved my relationships and self-understanding. Highly recommend it to anyone seeking inclusive, professional therapy services in Bangkok.”
