But given the numerous craft shops in the city, choosing only the best ones can be overwhelming, especially to the untrained eye. Trust me, I know Bangkok like the back of my hand and yet last month I spent days finding a quality handicraft. 

Don’t worry, your experience shouldn’t end with the same struggle. For this guide, I mobilized my trusted team of handicraft detectives to track down the best craft shops in Bangkok to make your craft hunt a breeze. Read on!

Chatuchak Weekend Market (near Chatuchak Park)  is a haven for crafts fans who frequent Bangkok. This massive Thai market boasts over 15,000 stalls, so expect to find a broad range of local craft shops of all shapes and forms. 

This includes traditional pottery, Thai lacquerware, handwoven accessories, and textile products. It also has a large selection of shops focusing on Buddhist handicrafts like mala bead necklaces, Buddha amulets, and figurines.

In fact, you can also buy flower and candle-based crafts used as temple offerings here. Some regional handmade products like Thai mulberry paper, carved teak, and silk are also available.

Pro Tip: 

This weekend market is also open from Wednesday to Friday but keep in mind that only its plant and wholesale sections are operational. So, stop by on Saturday and Sunday if you want access to all its local shops. 

Also, it’s best to use public transportation to go there because the roads around the market are usually congested, especially on weekends. We only recommend driving a car if you plan to buy products in large quantities or sizes.

Jim Thompson House Museum

Jim Thompson House Museum is a well-known attraction among art fans thanks to its gorgeous Thai-style teak building and superb art exhibits. However, it’s also a popular craft store in Bangkok specializing in traditional handwoven silk and cotton products.

Their best-sellers include kaftan dresses, twill scarves, casual shirts, bags, and more. They also sell numerous silk-made soft furnishings like printed cushion covers, Chenille silk blankets, embroidered silk placemats, and jacquard table runners.

Meanwhile, their cotton-based products include coasters, handkerchiefs, table napkins, reversible bucket hats, and more. Some of their products are also made from linen and leather like their signature leather coaster sets and linen tea towels.

Pro Tip: 

Ride the BTS Skytrain when visiting the Jim Thompson Museum because there’s no dedicated parking slot on-site. This place is only a short walk from the National Stadium station.

Train Night Market Srinagarindra is a lively open-air market frequented for its street food stalls, bars, eateries, and hundreds of shops. It’s also one of the best places to look for craft shops in Bangkok because it has numerous local souvenir stores.

These stores specialize in a wide range of old-school handicrafts, from antiques to porcelain kitchenware, retro clothes, vintage memorabilia, etc. Some of the craft shops they have now are Cool Way 3/25, English Memories, and Marmalade Dolls Shop.

You’ll also find shops selling custom-made crafts like skateboards, stamps, handcrafted jewelry, and chopper parts. The must-visit shops for these custom products are CTwo Skate Shop, Dope Slow, Rabbit and Wolf, and Old School Ring.

Pro Tip: 

Train Night Market Srinagarindra’s parking isn’t well-managed so we recommend going here via public transportation. Your best option is riding the BTS Skytrain to Udomsuk station which is only a 9-minute taxi ride to the market.

Sun Collections is the go-to silverware craft shop in Bangkok. This family-owned silverware workshop and store is best known for its premium stainless cutleries and tableware, from buffet wares to serving trays, tongs, wine buckets, and more.

In fact, Sun Collection’s silverware products are widely used by high-end hotels and restaurants around Bangkok. 

Their best-selling signature cutleries feature numerous handle designs. Think hexagonal, steel rope, snail-shaped loop, drop head, and more. 

They also offer custom designs and worldwide shipping services!

Pro Tip: 

Their cutleries are available to purchase from their website’s online shop but we recommend visiting their physical store to enjoy a wider selection of silverware products.

This is a roadside store without a dedicated parking lot so it’s best to come here via taxi or BTS Skytrain. The closest train station to Sun Collections is Saphan Taksin station.

Bangkok Dolls Shop and Museum

The museum’s massive collection also includes hundreds of imported dolls, so expect some displays featuring foreign traditional clothing as well. Think Chinese, Belgian, Greek, Korean, and more.

Pro Tip: 

Bangkok Dolls Shop and Museum is tucked away in a small alley so it might be hard to find the first time you’re visiting. The best way to locate this place is to head to the KJS Mansion building along Soi Mo Leng.

The building has a 7-Eleven store on its ground floor and the museum should be beside it.

Pro Tip: 

Craftfeteria is in Siam Paragon which offers a 2-hour free parking so it’s ideal if you’re driving a car. Just know that the mall charges 30 baht per hour after your first 2 hours or 60 baht on your seventh hour and beyond.

Bangkok Art and Culture Centre

Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is a solid pick for modern art and crafts fans. There, you can see impressive art exhibits featuring local artists, so expect plenty of paintings, sculptures, artistic photos, and more.

However, the BACC is also frequented for its numerous shops and pop-up booths. Most of these are craft shops selling handcrafted tote bags, bracelets, self-published books, and souvenir shirts.

You’ll also find numerous cafes and food stalls, so you’re covered for drinks and snacks during your tour.

Pro Tip: 

The BACC has a paid underground parking facility but we still recommend visiting early to secure a spot because this place is usually packed with visitors. Otherwise, you can park your vehicle at the nearby MBK shopping center.

Khao San Road

Khao San Road is best known as a nightlife hub filled with cheap open-air bars, street food stalls, backpacker inns, and lively nightclubs. However, this iconic road is also home to numerous local craft shops in Bangkok.

Khao San Road was popular for its silversmiths before it became a nightlife hub, so expect to see some body-piercing shops as well. But its most common craft shops today are roadside stalls selling embroidered bags, handwoven hats, coin purses, etc.

You can also find shops offering silver-made accessories like necklaces, bracelets, bangles, and earrings. Plus, there are stores specializing in Thai fabrics like silk, chakkri, and hump cloth. 

Pro Tip: 

It’s best to shop at Khao San Road in the afternoon because this area is extremely loud once all the streetside bars and nightclubs are open. Plus, this lets you avoid its typical drunk and crazy crowds.
