Do you remember your first dimsum experience? I do! My first encounter with Bangkok’s dim sum scene was at a tucked-away eatery near Chinatown (guide on Chinatown in bangkok). 

To date, I can still hear the clinking of teacups, the happy chatter of local families dining together, the aroma of freshly cooked xiao long bao, har gow, and shu mai, and the sight of waiters expertly handling steaming baskets – it was truly a feast for the senses!

I couldn’t get enough of the experience, so I went and explored many of Bangkok’s hidden gems and popular spots for dimsum and came up with a list of the best ones. Are you ready for a gastronomic adventure? Read on!

China House

China House in Bangkok offers some delicious Cantonese food you won’t find anywhere else in Thailand. You can taste a variety of food options but their best-selling dish here is its dim sum.

These pocket-sized delicacies come in different forms and shapes. You can have one that looks like a samosa along with some dumplings and tempura served with tea on the side with complimentary dipping sauce to up your dim sum eating experience.

Din Tai Fung is a global brand popular among dim sum-lovers and it’s not surprising why. The quality of their food items is top-notch and their service is just so unique that you’d have to experience it to believe it.

They have various types of dim sum and dumplings here but the best-seller you shouldn’t miss is their xiao long bao. It’s sort of like a mini steamed bun explodes in your mouth once you bite into it thanks to its juicy filling.

Their restaurants also have a very unique and interesting setup. Here, you have to first place your order in advance, wait for your number to be called, and watch as the master chefs of Din Tai Fung prepare your order.

Local Tip:
Aside from their dim sum, you can also go for something more filling. They have some fried meats and curry served with rice and some Chinese noodles as well if you prefer something a little more substantial when dining here.

Feng Zhu

Feng Zhu is a dim sum shop near the pier with a very unique vibe and presentation. It’s a small shop selling noodles and some dim sum with some small tables and chairs where you can sit and chill while appreciating its old Chinatown appeal.

The main draw of their dim sum is while they may have the same consistency and texture all throughout, you can significantly alter their taste by adding the sauce you prefer. You can either go for their curry, mala, and teriyaki.

Hong Bao

Hong Bao isn’t just a dim sum and dumpling shop as it is one of the most popular Chinese restaurants in the area. Aside from their dim sum, you can order legendary Chinese dishes such as their crispy pork belly, stir-fried veggies, and egg-fried rice.

Little Dragon is a dim sum restaurant you need to try when in Bangkok if you’re going for that traditional Chinese diner feel and fantastic dim sum options. There are also other dishes for you to try out at this establishment without going over your budget.

They have some of the best steamed dim sum in the area with their pork and shrimp steamed dim sum being definite standouts. Little Dragon also offers a unique deep-fried taro dim sum that’s perfect if you want something a bit sweet and spicy.

If you want some refreshments after feasting on their dim sum, there are fresh fruit juices and Italian soda here as well. Also, you can share an ice-cold beer with a friend or with your group if you dine here as they serve some popular local beers like Singha.

Local Tip:
You can also add a little kick to your meal here by asking the wait staff for some of their chilli oil. Little Dragon creates its own homemade chilli which tastes just right– spicy but tolerable enough for you to enjoy it. 

Lhong Tou

If you’re after a unique and delicious dim sum dining experience, Lhong Tou is your place to be in Bangkok. The restaurant has a nice concept that lets you climb a few steps higher than the table below you to sit on an elevated platform while you eat.

This makes your dining area at Lhong Tou an ideal spot for photos and selfies. The dim sum you can order is also Instagram-worthy, especially their snack set which includes a number of dumplings and other food items that just taste heavenly.

Lhong Tou dishes that you need to try out include siomai, fried wonton, and some steamed gyoza. If you want something to perk you up after your meal here, you can also try their iced coffee and caramel macchiato with its caffeine-infused formula!

Local Tip:
Aside from dim sum and dumplings, they also serve a fantastic breakfast here: the Emperor Breakfast. It features a savoury porridge with some excellent side dishes – perfect if you want something filling!

Loong Foong

If you’ve got a big appetite, then check out what Loong Foong restaurant has to offer. It has a dim sum buffet that lets you feast on all the dim sum you want plus some other buffet options to make sure you’re satisfied and full after your meal.

Some of the most in-demand items at their buffet include puffed taro, shrimp balls, and mini lotus sticky rice wrap. You should also try their lobster salad and roasted pork especially if you want to pair these with their egg-fried rice.

Local Tip:
Since most of their dim sum here is prepared fresh, you should order in advance if you want to continuously eat during the lunch buffet. Service can take a while if you order late and can lead to you waiting longer than expected.

Pagoda Restaurant is definitely worth a visit if you value elegance, customer satisfaction, and great dim sum. They serve a great selection of traditional Chinese food and it’ll be quite challenging to choose which one should be your next favourite!

The interiors of this restaurant are oozing with traditional Chinese elegance with its intricate decors and lush furnishings. Their dim sum is also top-notch, especially their deep-fried crispy prawn with mangoes, and steamed rice rolls.

You should also order their 3-course Peking duck set where you get three different types of recipes. The first one has crispy duck skin, while the second has duck meat with plum sauce, and the last one is cooked with some spring onions and ginger.

Local Tip:
There are some vouchers you can avail of from the internet or based on the credit card you want to use. For example, Club Marriott can give you up to a 30% discount while the online vouchers can give you up to a 50% discount.

Shang Palace

Their dim sum is served in steamed bamboo baskets which adds a more traditional feel to the elegant setup of the restaurant. Their options include dumplings, shio mai, and even some fried spring rolls and gyoza– ideal if you’re craving some finger food.

The restaurant also offers a ton of different teas and sauces to spruce up your dining experience while you’re at Shang Palace. Of course, their classic Jasmine tea is always a fantastic option especially if you want something clean and smooth after your meal.

Local Tip:
If you don’t feel like going for the buffet, then you can also opt to go for their menu set. This package is perfect if you’re planning to go with your partner as it includes a bottle of champagne for you and your loved one to enjoy.

Mei Jiang Restaurant

At the Mei Jiang Restaurant, you won’t be limited to just dim sum as they serve some of the best Cantonese cuisine on this side of Bangkok. Their dim sum sets are to die for with some steamed siomai, pork buns, and their ha kao.

They also have some fantastic main courses that you shouldn’t miss. These include their soft and tender wagyu beef, their huge stir-fried prawns and their phenomenal fried rice all cooked and served to perfection just for you.

You can also end your meal on a sweet note here. Just order their almond cream with egg white and some mango cream with sago to cleanse your palette and enjoy something sweet and creamy – ideal if you want a more traditional Chinese dessert!

Local Tip:
The area around the hotel where this restaurant is located can be quite troublesome due to the heavy traffic. To get to the location, you can take the free shuttle boat ride from the BTS station to the nearby pier.

Summer Palace

Summer Palace is home to some of the most exquisite dim sum and the best part is that you can have unlimited servings of this delicious Chinese dish! This is because every weekday, you can go for their buffet packages and enjoy some amazing food.

If you’re a dim sum fanatic, you need to definitely order their steamed seafood dumplings with XO sauce, steamed shrimp dim sum, and steamed pork spare ribs with some palaga (garlic and chilli sauce).

Of course, they also have full meals and sets which you can also feast on if you’re hungrier than usual. Don’t hold back on ordering their deep-fried boneless chicken and their barbecued pork with honey along with some of their tasty fish maw broth.

Local Tip:
You can buy some takeaway food items for you to bring home as souvenirs or as a gift to your loved ones. One of their best-sellers is their mooncake box which contains 4 different mooncake flavours– an ideal gift item indeed! 

Silk Road

If you want some dim sum with standout flavours and a little less traditional, then you should consider the Silk Road. Here, you can order the same dim sum and Chinese dishes but with a twist – the flavours are a bit different!

Instead of using traditional Chinese herbs and spices, the restaurant uses other locally sourced ingredients making the flavour of their tender and juicy dimsum and their perfectly cooked chicken feet taste a bit different and definitely unique.

Local Tip:
Most of their food items here have pork in them but if you are vegan, you can ask wait staff to offer alternatives. In fact, you can have them customise some of their food items (such as fried rice) to make them vegan-friendly.

 Evergarden

Evergarden has some of the best dim sums in Bangkok and it’s all thanks to their use of flavourful and fresh ingredients. Each bite of their shumai and har gow is tender and juicy, with bursting flavours that will make you want more.

Something you shouldn’t miss out on when you’re here, though, are their pork dishes—they know how to cook this ingredient to perfection! For instance, their sweet and sour pork and pork cutlets are perfectly done: crispy, tender, and with the right amount of flavour! 

Local Tip:
If you want something unique, you can try their sesame jellyfish salad. It has a great consistency and awesome flavour that you won’t easily find here in Thailand.

Don’t forget to order tea refills as you can ask for these an unlimited number of times. They also have fantastic bubble tea but this one needs to be ordered per serving.
