Top 5 Orthopedic Specialists in Thailand You Can Count on for Bone-afide Results

Expertise & Qualifications - We made sure each specialist was board-certified, highly trained, and had extensive experience treating bone and joint issues.

Specialization - We specifically looked for orthopedic doctors who focus on things like sports injuries, joint replacements, spine problems, and pediatric orthopedics.

Facility - High-quality facilities were a must, so we checked for clinics and hospitals with modern equipment, clean treatment rooms, and the latest technology for diagnosis and surgery.

Patient Care - We listened to patient feedback about friendliness, clear explanations, and whether they felt comfortable and genuinely cared for throughout their treatment.

A few months ago, I twisted my ankle chasing after my dog, who freed himself from the leash (don’t ask). I figured I’d just walk it off, but my joints had other ideas—they complained for days!

That’s when it hit me: I needed a real pro who knows all about bones, joints, and everything in between. Lucky for me, Thailand is a pretty good goldmine of skilled orthopedic specialists, so I was able to get into healing quickly.

That’s why my team and I thought we’d round up the best orthopedic specialists in Thailand, in case somebody else needs some help. Check them out below!

How much do orthopedic services cost in Thailand?

In Thailand, you can expect to pay anywhere from THB85,000 to over THB500,000 for major orthopedic surgery at private hospitals. The price usually includes the surgery, hospital stay, medication, and basic aftercare, offering significant value compared to Western countries. Public hospitals offer much lower prices, but you might have to deal with longer wait times.

Attentive guidance and thoughtful assistance

“I came to use the services at Bangkok Hospital and was impressed with the service. Mr. Rapipat took me to various departments, followed up on the queue, and gave good advice.”

Warm, proactive nursing service

“Excellent service, very impressive. I came for a follow-up at the orthopedic department. I arrived before my appointment time. The nurse provided excellent service. She informed me that there were two queues ahead of me, but if the doctor arrived and queues 1 and 2 hadn’t arrived yet, I would let her see the doctor first. I later learned that the nurse’s name was Ms. Patchara. The other nurse also provided excellent service, periodically updating me that the doctor hadn’t arrived yet. Now the doctor is here, but he went up to visit the patient, and queues 1 and 2 have arrived. She took such good care of me that I felt embarrassed. So I asked her name. Her name is Ms. Chanrudee. The customer service department would like to commend and thank Ms. Patchara and Ms. Chanrudee for their excellent service.”

With board certification in orthopedic surgery and advanced fellowship training in metabolic bone disorders from Sheffield University in the UK, Dr. Tanawat brings deep expertise to the table. Osteoporosis, metabolic bone conditions, and geriatric orthopedics are on his menu, too.

His clinical interests and research are focused on improving outcomes for older adults facing bone loss and complex fractures—often introducing pioneering protocols, like the Fracture Liaison Service model he helped establish in Thailand.

Patients consistently praise Dr. Tanawat’s ability to explain complicated diagnoses with calm clarity, and he supports them through everything from bone density screenings and prevention to surgery and post-op recovery.

Do know, though, that his expertise is in demand, and booking with Dr. Tanawat requires some planning—appointments can sometimes shift, so double-check your schedule.

  • International fellowship training (UK)
  • Evidence-based, patient-centered care

We’re always on the lookout for standout orthopedic care, and Prof. Dr. Keerati Charoencholvanich at KDMS definitely caught our attention.

If knee or his issues are cramping your style (from sports injuries to those annoying age-related aches), he’s the guy you want in your career.

What we really liked is that Dr. Keerati isn’t just talking up new tech—he actually uses the MAKO robotic system in his hip and knee replacements, which means more precise surgery and, hopefully, a smoother recovery for you.

His credentials are solid, too. Years of specialized training here and abroad (plus some impressive fellowships), so he’s not just following trends—he’s setting them. We also commend him for being great at explaining what’s going on—a lot of his previous clients highlighted this.

But it’s not all sunshine—when we visited, the staff scheduled us early, and then we waited around for the doctor to arrive. Apparently, that’s not an uncommon hiccup, so if you’re tight on time, double-check your slot before heading over.

Pros

  • Leading expertise in knee and hip replacement
  • MAKOplasty robotic-assisted surgery
  • Internationally trained
  • Modern, comfortable facility
  • Good patient explanations
  • International insurance accepted (AACI-certified)
  • Clear communication

Cons

  • Poor appointment service

Compassionate expertise and seamless patient experience

“We were pleased to see how quick and helpful the KDMS staff were to help us get an appointment with a doctor for an Achilles tendon surgery.  It didn’t take long for us to trust and have confidence in Dr. Sittha. He is knowledgable, has good energy and presence, compassionate and was able to answer all our questions. The staff, nurses, and customer support were also  kind and glad to help.  The hospital environment feels very spacious, new, clean and peaceful. We have so much gratitude towards KDMS. Thank you.”

Attentive specialist care with modern facilities

“A specialized hospital for Orthopedic.  I am the out patient here for my numbness hands.  The doctor is clearly an expert and he recommends me a certain treatment which make all sense (non money maker). The facilities are super new, clean and well organized.  The staff is very attentive and taking care of me well.  The process takes me 30min from the drop off to the payment of medicine.  Price could be high, though it’s the same rate as other private hospitals in Bangkok.  Various insurance policies are accepted here.”

Dr. Vorathep Wangtrakunchai (widely referred to as “Dr. Thep”) runs the show here, and he’s not just any bone doctor—he completed advanced training at UCLA on top of his Chiang Mai medical background, which is impressive!

We spoke with a handful of regulars, and everyone seems to agree that he’s upfront, thorough, and never the type to just rush through appointments.

Specialization here is pretty broad—Dr. Thep tackles everything from worn-out knees to frozen shoulders, herniated discs, trigger finger, and your standard “office syndrome”.

His use of new techniques—like PRP and minimally invasive procedures—and his “treat you right, no over-treatment” philosophy win serious trust.

We also like that this clinic is set up to accommodate health and accident insurance, which is a game-changer, especially for expats.

The only caveat is that appointment slots are limited since Dr. Thep is the sole orthopedic specialist, and with the clinic’s limited hours, you’ll want to book ahead.

Pros

  • UCLA-trained, highly qualified orthopedic specialist
  • Wide range of treatments
  • Modern, minimally invasive techniques
  • Accepts health and accident insurance
  • Clear explanations and personalized care
  • Central, accessible location

Cons

  • Limited operating hours; closed on Sundays
  • Long wait times during peak times
  • Small clinic; may feel crowded

Accurate diagnosis and trustworthy care

“My husband was suffering pain at knee joint and wrist, Dr.Thep diagnosed them accurately. We decided to accept treatment immediately at that time. This is the second time we trust Dr.Thep and pain released. Don’t hesitate to make appointment with this clinic. 🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻”

Quick, efficient service at a fair price

“I recently visited this orthopedic office for an elbow bursitis issue. After a very short wait time, I saw the doctor and then he proceeded aspiration (extraction) of the bursitis fluid. Quick and efficient. The Dr. speaks English as well. Very reasonable price and highly recommend. I will return if any other orthopedic issues arise.”

If you’re after orthopedic care with a hands-on, tech-forward approach, Chanakarn Orthopedic Clinic truly stands out. Dr. Chanakarn Phornphutkul leads the clinic with a blend of international training and practical expertise.

The setup here is modern, with digital X-rays and a dedicated physiotherapy section, so you’re not shuffled around between places just for diagnostics or rehab.

One thing we like is Dr. Chanakarn’s commitment to starting with conservative, non-surgical options—think medication, joint injections (including PRP and synovial fluid), and other less-invasive procedures.

For those who need it, the arthroscopic surgeries are efficient and recovery-oriented, which is a big plus if you want to be up and about sooner. He also has notable experience with trauma cases, like fractures and dislocations.

That said, if English is your language, Dr. Chanakarn’s staff’s basic communication is fine, but complex questions might be a little tough—feedback on this is consistent. Also, don’t expect to secure a slot over the phone, since all appointments are strictly in person.

Pros

  • Internationally trained orthopedic specialist
  • Minimally invasive & arthroscopic surgery options
  • Advanced technologies
  • Comprehensive trauma and joint replacement care
  • In-house physiotherapy and rehabilitation
  • Well-equipped facility

Cons

  • Basic English communication only
  • In-person appointment booking only

Top-tier expertise and approachable care

“Dr Chanakarn is a “rock star orthopedic surgeon.” He’s knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and knows exactly what he is doing.  I had a great experience with him. His recommendations and skills are top notch. Thanks Doc. 👍🏽 …”

Skilled team and efficient service

“The doctors are experienced, provide sharp diagnoses, and are compassionate and provide clear explanations.

The queues are relatively fast, and the staff is excellent at managing time and taking care of patients.

The fees are more affordable than other clinics.

The interior is spacious and comfortable.

There is a parking lot outside, making it convenient for wheelchair users.

This is my favorite orthopedic clinic.”
