The 5 Best Rheumatologists in Bangkok

The 5 Best Rheumatologists in Bangkok

How We Picked

Doctors

Rheumatology is a specialty of pediatrics and internal medicine. The doctors of the clinic or hospital need to be board-certified and have the knowledge and qualifications necessary to treat patients.

Facilities

We checked if the facilities are hygienic, sanitized, modern, well-equipped, and abide by public health standards.

Safety

We evaluated if the hospital or clinic is accessible for rheumatic patients. Furthermore, we combed through reviews and conducted surveys to check the efficacy, safety, and legitimacy of their methods.

Patient Experience

We checked if the patient experience — from scheduling an appointment to meeting the rheumatologist to checking out — is seamless and convenient.

Pricing

We analyzed the prices between clinics and chose the ones that have the lowest rates, even with an experienced team of doctors and world-class facilities.

Pros

  • Board-certified team of surgeons and medical professionals
  • 50 years of operations
  • Excellent facilities
  • Clean waiting rooms
  • Trusted name in healthcare
  • Has interpreter services

Cons

  • Pricier hospital room rates

Bangkok Hospital is a private healthcare facility that has been operating since 1972. Over the years, it has grown into a tertiary care facility with dedicated hospitals for cardiology and cancer.

Its arthritis and rheumatic clinic is headed by board-certified internal medicine practitioners. We like their reliability and expertise, which assures patients that they are qualified for the job.

The hospital is one of Bangkok’s most well-known private hospitals, especially among tourists and internationals. Based on our surveys, many patients appreciate their interpreter services.

One of the things we like is its facilities that are clean, sanitized, hygienic, well-equipped, and modern. You’ll feel at ease in the waiting rooms and your private room.

Another great thing about Bangkok Hospital’s arthritis and rheumatic clinic is it completely evaluates the patient’s condition. They also make a thorough analysis of the area that has swelling, heat, or pain.

Furthermore, the doctor in charge usually suggests tests like MRI and X-rays to get a visual image of the extent of the patient’s arthritis.

The clinic, however, acknowledges that there is no specific way to diagnose the condition, especially in the first six months.

The doctors usually prescribe this course of treatment for their patients experiencing symptoms of rheumatism: Medication, rest, exercise, prevention of further damage, and in some cases, surgery to remove the damaged area.

Because the hospital has been operational for decades, we think it’s already set in its ways and processes. Also, you can expect a seamless transaction from start to finish, as long as you have your payment or insurance ready.

However, we noticed a drawback, which is their expensive room rates. A standard private room might set you back ฿11,300 per day, so be ready with your cash or insurance if you have to stay for a few days.

Pros

  • On-staff doctors specializing in rheumatology
  • High-end, clean, well-equipped, world-class facilities
  • Quick appointments and efficient staff

Cons

  • Pricing is on the higher end

Bumrungrad International Hospital was founded in 1980 and is an internationally accredited, multi-specialty hospital. We found it impressive that it’s one of the largest hospitals in Southeast Asia.

True to its name, Bumrungrad is one of the most well-known hospitals among vacationers and internationals. It also places a premium on the latest updates in medical technology and innovative patient services.

Moreover, it has board-certified doctors specializing in rheumatology. So, if you’re looking for a practitioner who knows the ins and outs of this condition, we think this hospital is a top choice.

We like that booking an appointment is simple and easy and that patients can do it by phone or through the hospital’s website.

One of the things we love most about Bumrungrad International Hospital is its facilities. When you walk in, or even as you drive through the entrance, you instantly feel like you’re entering a five-star hotel.

The facilities are not just clean — they are also world-class and have a luxurious edge to them. Hospitals can feel lifeless and sterile, and we appreciate that Bumrungrad is an exception.

Another service patients can maximize is its transport service. The hospital can shuttle patients to and from Suvarnabhumi (BKK) Airport. Just make sure to align your flight time accordingly.

English is widely spoken at the hospital. If you’re a tourist, you won’t have too much trouble communicating with the staff and doctors.

While the hospital is widely transparent with its pricing policy and price estimation, its pricing is on the higher end. We understand that this is the reason why it encourages patients to know about the costs of procedures first before the care begins.

We must mention one major drawback you might want to prepare for: Bumrungrad requires a full deposit for all its procedures. On the other hand, full refunds are given in the case of advance cancellations.

3. Vejthani Hospital

Pros

  • Has doctors specializing in rheumatology
  • Comfortable waiting rooms
  • Clean, high-end, and world-class facilities
  • Interpreter services
  • Transportation services

Cons

  • Rheumatology clinic is not open 24 hours
  • Higher price point

Vejthani Hospital was established in 1994 and is one of the most recognized private international hospitals in Bangkok.

Notably, this hospital is one of the reasons why Bangkok is a leading city for medical tourism. In fact, Vejthani Hospital serves over 300,000 patients from over 100 countries every year.

Moreover, it received one of the highest numbers of Clinical Care Program Certifications (CCPCs) from Joint Commission International (JCI), so patient safety is guaranteed.

Patients with arthritis and rheumatic conditions will certainly find the help they need in this hospital because it has a department that specializes in rheumatology.

One of the things we appreciate the most about this hospital is its world-class amenities and waiting lounges. The design of the interiors is modern, welcoming, bright, and stylish–perfect for patients who are uncomfortable and uneasy in hospitals.

We like that the hospital looks more like a five-star hotel than a healthcare facility. It also houses world-famous coffee and pastry shops, so if you or your caretaker ever get hungry, you won’t have to settle for the cafeteria.

If you don’t speak Thai, you also don’t have to worry about communication because the hospital offers interpreter services for various languages by native-speaking coordinators.

Another thing to note is that it also provides transportation, so if you’re coming from overseas, you can coordinate pick-up services from the airport.

One con, however, is the hospital’s higher price point. For example, an annual executive checkup might set you back ฿21,000. Make sure you’re ready with insurance or cash to cover the medical costs.

4. BNH Hospital

Pros

  • Board-certified doctors
  • Clean, well-maintained, and high-end facilities
  • Comfortable waiting rooms

Cons

  • Only one rheumatologist
  • Pricier wards

BNH Hospital has been operating for over 124 years. It was first founded as a nursing home by the British community, and it eventually evolved into a full-service hospital for Thais and expatriates.

In 1991, its medical center was formed to set a new international standard to meet the increasing needs of locals and internationals for top-notch private healthcare.

One of the things we like is that BNH Hospital has an in-house rheumatologist. If you want a specialist to check on your condition, you only need to check his schedule by calling the hospital.

But that’s another disadvantage — while the hospital has plenty of internal medicine practitioners, there’s only one rheumatologist. You might want to call ahead to ensure that he’s in before you go to the hospital.

One thing we love about this hospital is its private rooms. They’re comfortable, luxurious, warm, and cozy — words we don’t usually use to describe other hospital rooms.

You can tell that the staff took its sweet time designing and styling the rooms to ensure maximum comfort for patients. We think this can probably be traced back to the hospital’s nursing home roots.

You can choose between the BNH wards and the Royal Heritage wards, but both options are already comfortable and cozy.

They’re not the most cost-effective solution, but if you want your recovery period to feel like a hospital stay, it’s a good option.

5. MedPark Hospital

Pros

  • Two board-certified rheumatologists
  • Modern interiors
  • Clean waiting rooms
  • Uses new technologies to diagnose

Cons

  • Rheumatology clinic is not open for 24 hours

MedPark Hospital is managed by a team of doctors and executives with over three decades of experience. Interestingly, it’s known for championing education, research, and medical tourism.

Two board-certified doctors helm its rheumatology center. One specializes in internal medicine and rheumatology, while the other specializes in rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmune diseases.

However, the rheumatology clinic is only open from 8 AM to 8 PM daily, so you might not be able to see a specialist until its opening hours, even if there’s an emergency.

One of the things we appreciate about MedPark Hospital is its world-class amenities. Because it’s a self-proclaimed “innovator and pusher for medical tourism,” you can trust that the rooms and facilities will be top-notch.

We’re also glad to learn that this hospital is focused on education and research. Patients can expect that the doctors are always up-to-the-minute on the latest developments in medical technology.

Another thing to note is that the rheumatology center combines the doctors’ extensive experience with modern technologies to come up with accurate diagnoses for its patients.

The center also places a premium on holistic development. Aside from using modern technology for more in-depth diagnoses and efficient treatment, it also features a relaxing ambiance to ensure patients’ mental well-being.
