7 Best VPN In Bangkok

8 Best VPN in Bangkok

How We Picked

Credibility

We’ve rounded up the most trusted VPN providers you can use in Bangkok and abroad.

Security

We chose the providers that best treat our privacy. We’ve noted which ones encrypt data, log our browsing sessions (or don’t), have additional safeguards when in use, and operate under privacy-friendly laws.

Speed

Since VPNs require your data to pass through remote servers in another part of the world, the slowing down connection on the user’s end is inevitable. Great VPNs have found ways to have the least slow connections possible.

Number of Servers

This goes two ways – whether the VPN has a dedicated Thailand server for accessing Thai websites and how many servers in other countries it can provide for Thais wanting access to country-restricted sites.

Pricing

We chose providers that give the bang for your buck without compromising all other things needed in a VPN.

Customer Service

We’ve gathered customer data about these companies’ service quality and support methods.

Pros

  • 20 servers dedicated to Thailand
  • Affordable pricing
  • AES-256 encryption standard
  • Excellent customer service

Cons

  • Operates under Dutch (Netherlands) law
  • Decent speed loss record just on paper
  • Fairly new VPN player

Surfshark is another famous VPN you might’ve already heard of hundreds of times through your favourite YouTube channels.

It started operations just in 2018 but has already cemented itself as one of the top VPNs you can use anywhere, including Bangkok.

The best thing about Surfshark is that it has a whopping 20 servers you can connect to if you need a Thai IP address.

For a very affordable monthly price of USD 2.49 (THB 81.60) under a two-year subscription, there is no cap on the number of devices you can connect simultaneously.

It garnered a reasonably decent result in CNET’s speed tests in 2022, with a 19% speed loss record. However, in actual usage, some of our respondents noted experiencing slower speeds than expected.

Like the other best players in the industry, this VPN uses AES-256 data encryption and doesn’t log user data.

However, it’s no surprise that many IT security experts and regular users are concerned about the security of user data because Surfshark operates in the Netherlands, a country part of the Nine and Fourteen Eyes intelligence networks.

The VPN has since ensured users that Dutch laws do not require them to collect nor share user data with any country to calm things down.

Issues aside, its customer service is generally excellent, so if you’re looking for a VPN with great pricing for its service, we suggest you check out Surfshark.

Pros

  • 10 Thailand (Bangkok) servers
  • Operating under Panama privacy laws
  • Decent speed loss record
  • AES-256 encryption
  • Reasonable pricing
  • Great customer support

Cons

  • VPN IP blocking is common

NordVPN is another top virtual private network you can access inside and outside of Thailand. It has ten servers for Bangkok and over 5,000 in 60 countries worldwide.

The best things about NordVPN are its excellent customer support and its headquarters in Panama (safe from data- and intelligence-sharing country networks).

Many of our respondents laud the tech support staff of NordVPN for their consistent expertise in assisting client concerns. With the overall great service, the VPN’s USD 4.99 or THB 163.52 monthly fee (for a 1-year subscription) is a bang for the buck.

Users can also rest assured that aside from their data not being logged, no government entity can oblige NordVPN to share any user information. This VPN utilises AES-256 encryption.

In addition to these pros, NordVPN also ranked quite high in CNET’s tests in 2022. With only 13% speed loss recorded, it’s evident that this VPN will not throttle down users’ surfing speeds.

One drawback of being one of the biggest names in VPN is that it’s becoming more common for NordVPN IP addresses to be blocked by specific websites and countries.

Nonetheless, we’re sure that the VPN is constantly adding new, unblocked IP addresses for its users as we speak.

4. ExpressVPN

Pros

  • 14 years in the industry
  • Based in a country outside intel alliances
  • Lowest speed loss
  • Can be used in up to 5 devices
  • Has a Thailand server

Cons

  • Expensive rates
  • Has only 1 Thailand server
  • Customer support can still improve

One of our best bets for VPNs in Bangkok is ExpressVPN.This provider is one of the oldest in the business, starting in 2009.

It’s headquartered in the British Virgin Islands, meaning it operates outside of information or intelligence country alliances — your data is relatively in safer hands.

We love ExpressVPN for a couple of reasons. First, it uses the highest standard of data encryption, AES-256, and can connect up to five devices at the same time.

This VPN also topped CNET’s speed tests in 2022 by garnering only a 2% speed loss in connections). It also doesn’t hurt that you can use it on many devices, including your phone, computer, or tablet.

ExpressVPN boasts high-speed servers in 94 countries worldwide. If you’re in Thailand and want to access geo-blocked content in other countries, say, streaming services with a US library,  then you can use this VPN to access using a US IP address.

The flipside is okay, but not that promising. Even though ExpressVPN has over 2,000 servers worldwide, there is only one server for Thailand (Bangkok).

So, if you’re in a location outside Thailand and would like to access Thai-IP-only content, then you’d have to risk sharing the bandwidth of the server with lots of other users simultaneously. (Good thing it’s the fastest VPN there is, right?)

A few drawbacks of using ExpressVPN include its steep pricing and a hit-or-miss customer support service.

An annual subscription will set you back around 8 US dollars or THB 270 a month — way higher than its competitors for the same features.

A handful of our respondents also complained about the inability of the tech team to timely and effectively address their respective concerns.

Nevertheless, the pros outweigh the cons for ExpressVPN, so we still highly recommend it as one of the best VPNs for Bangkok residents.

5. CyberGhost

Pros

  • 25 Thailand servers
  • In the industry since 2004
  • Very affordable rates
  • Has email/password leak notifications
  • Based in Romania

Cons

  • Customer support needs improvement
  • Not compatible with some streaming services

CyberGhost has the most Thai servers in all VPNs we’ve looked at for this list. With a whopping 25 servers for Bangkok (and almost 10,000 worldwide), any user who’d like to get a Thai IP address using this VPN has many options, even if demand is high.

Since CyberGhost has been around since 2004, it’s a pretty reputable name in the VPN industry.

It’s based in Romania, another country outside of any inter-country intelligence networks, and doesn’t log user data, so your sessions and other information are secure – a big plus for us!

CyberGhost’s monthly fees for a two-year subscription are also great. For only around 2 US dollars a month (THB 65), you can access all its VPN servers and more!

A unique feature we love the most about this VPN is that it can notify you if your email or passwords have been part of third-party data leaks. It also has an antivirus feature for your device.

On the downside, some things our respondents didn’t like about CyberGhost are its customer service and hit-and-miss compatibility with streaming services.

For instance, many users were not satisfied with billing and technical support. Some users had a hard time going back and forth with support staff just to find out that they won’t be able to use this VPN for certain streaming platforms in their respective locations.

Nevertheless, if you’re on a budget or not a fan of streaming and want to get the most out of any subscription you have, then we reckon you might like CyberGhost as a VPN.

Pros

  • Credible name in the VPN industry
  • Affordable pricing
  • Advanced split tunneling

Cons

  • US-based
  • Can be blocked in some sites
  • No Thailand servers

If you’re a Thai resident wanting to access non-Thai, geo-blocked content, then Private Internet Access (PIA) can help you. It’s also one of the original VPNs out there since it launched in 2010.

Sadly, we noted that it doesn’t have any Thai servers, so it will only be helpful for users inside Thailand who want to access external stuff.

We do think PIA’s affordable pricing is a godsend, though — around 3 US dollars or THB 100 a month for an annual plan is just perfect. You can also connect up to 5 of your devices simultaneously.

But, for us, the best thing about PIA worth mentioning is its advanced split-tunneling feature.

With this, you can choose which apps or programs can get excluded from passing through PIA’s VPN servers, making it possible to turn off VPN access for a particular program or website while still having it running for the rest of your online activities.

However, there are still downsides to having PIA as your VPN. PIA is based in the US, so you should be extra careful about what you’ll use this VPN for (although they assure to have a 100% no-logs policy, so we’re glad about that).

Also, perhaps due to being one of the OG VPNs, many sites block IP addresses under PIA.

For example, there are reports that PIA doesn’t work with British streaming services, so you should double-check if it will work with your preferences before paying for a subscription.

7. IPVanish

Pros

  • Affordable fees
  • Connects an unlimited number of devices
  • Open-source apps
  • Supports many devices

Cons

  • App support can still improve
  • No Thailand servers

Another US-based VPN on our list that has been around for more than a decade is IPVanish. Like its competitors, it operates with the highest data encryption standards.

IPVanish boasts more than 2,000 servers in over 75 countries but doesn’t have any for Bangkok or Thailand.

Therefore, like Private Internet Access, IPVanish benefits Thai residents accessing out-of-country content more than those who want to access Thai content.

We’re not totally upset, though: its unlimited number of devices or connections is a great catch. It also has open-source apps for at least ten types of devices, so there is no limit for IPVanish!

IPVanish also supports most VPN protocols, making it a good choice for VPN power users or those simply looking for more secure VPN options. This VPN’s pricing of around 4 US dollars (THB 130) per month for an annual plan is another plus.

However, we found that there are still a couple of cons to choosing IPVanish as a VPN service.

Firstly, it doesn’t work with YouTube. It means you won’t still be able to access videos unavailable in your native IP address location, even if you’re already connected to the IPVanish service.

Second, the support for some of its apps, like the one for the iPhone, can still improve.

In the end, IPVanish is a good option for a VPN if you’re looking for a more customisable experience for any number of devices that you have.

Pros

  • Excellent record in data privacy
  • Has a FREE tier
  • Average pricing
  • 8 Bangkok servers

Cons

  • Average connection speeds
  • Need a paid subscription for Thai server access
  • Customer service can be timelier

If you’re looking for a VPN with a solid record in data security, then we highly suggest you check out ProtonVPN. It came from the bright minds of MIT and CERN scientists who also created the world’s first encrypted email service, ProtonMail.

ProtonVPN operates from Switzerland, one of the best countries for data privacy. We also like that Proton AG makes sure that its servers have the highest level of security.

Aside from its stellar origins, we liked ProtonVPN’s free service the most. You can connect one device to ProtonVPN servers in the US, Japan, or the Netherlands FOR FREE.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to pay for at least a “Plus” subscription if you have more than one device and want to use IP addresses from 64 other countries in its network (aside from the three we’ve mentioned).

Monthly fees cost around 6 USD (almost THB 200) for a one-year subscription, which is still in the middle of the park in our books.

If you’re willing to pay, you’re in luck! Getting a Thai IP address is possible because ProtonVPN has eight Bangkok servers you can choose from.

Whether you are under the free tier or have subscribed to a paid plan, ProtonVPN assures all its clients of AES-256 data encryption, open-source VPN applications, a kill switch, and no logging of user data.

Although it has excellent strengths, we think ProtonVPN is behind its competitors due to its average service.

For one, CNET recorded a 17% speed loss when it tested this VPN in 2022. It has less than 2,000 servers worldwide — a much lower number than its biggest competitors.

Many users have also noted that the timeliness of its customer support can still improve.

Ultimately, we think ProtonVPN is a great contender for the top VPN in Bangkok, but it still has a long way to go.
