The Ultimate Guide to Getting Around and Loving Jomtien Beach

Shakespeare might’ve said, “To beach or not to beach, Jomtien or to Pattaya? That is the question” (Okay, maybe not—but let’s roll with it). If you’re stuck choosing between the two, just ask yourself: do I want something a bit more laid-back or something more full-on?

If the chill vibes win, Jomtien Beach is probably the best bet. It’s a long, breezy stretch with plenty of room to move, loads of food, water sports, and attractions—minus the weaving through crowds you’d experience if you’re in Pattaya.

Whether you’re planning a relaxed solo trip, a weekend with friends, or a beach day with family, we’ve got you covered with this no-fuss, complete guide to making the most of Jomtien Beach.

Best Time to Go

If you’re thinking of heading to Jomtien Beach, shoot for November to February. The skies stay clear, the breeze is nice, and the heat’s a lot easier to handle—perfect for long beach days or grabbing seafood by the water without melting in your chair.

And if you want it quieter, try mid-May or late October. Rain shows up here and there, but it’s usually quick. Hotels drop their prices, the beach feels more laid-back, and it’s a good time to unwind without the peak-season rush.

How to Get Around

  • Songthaews – These songthaews run up and down Jomtien’s main road and into Pattaya. Just hop on the back, press the buzzer when you want to get off, and pay around ฿10-฿20.
  • Motorbike taxis – You’ll see drivers in colored vests hanging out at corners and busy spots. Great for quick rides, especially if you’re solo (always agree on the fare before you hop on).
  • Taxis – They’re around but not always metered. If you flag one down, settle on a price first or ask them to turn the meter on. They’re more common in central Pattaya.
  • Grab – Reliable and easy, especially if you’re not into haggling. You can choose between a car or a motorbike, and the app gives you a set price upfront.
  • Walking – For short distances along the beach or around your hotel area, walking’s actually pretty nice, especially in the morning or late afternoon when it’s cooler.

This hotel has about 93 air-conditioned rooms equipped with private bathrooms, satellite TV, and refrigerators. If you go through their options, you can also choose rooms with sea views and private balconies.

Another highlight is their free Wi-Fi throughout the property. On that note, digital nomads can stay and work here without any issue—they can even grab some food at the beachfront restaurant or get a massage to unwind.

You’ll find Jomtien Beach to be quieter than Pattaya Beach, making it perfect for a nice and chill beach day. Whether you sunbathe or swim, there’s plenty of space to explore and settle down without feeling crowded.

We also love that the sea here is calm and shallow near the shore, which is great for relaxed dips or floating around without getting swept away by the waves. This also means kids can go for a slow and safe swim around the shores.

Also, if you come slightly unprepared, there are vendors along the beach that rent out loungers and umbrellas (especially if it’s really hot out) for a small fee. But you can also consider going early in the morning or late afternoon for cooler temps and softer sunlight.

Try water sports for a fun and active day at Jomtien Beach

Trying water sports in Jomtien Beach will probably be one of the best parts of your trip (it was for ours!). There are lots of places where you can try or learn it—think jet skiing, banana boat rides, parasailing, windsurfing, and paddleboarding.

We appreciate that most water sports come with quick instruction and safety gear, so even first-timers can dive in without stress. For instance, jet ski zones are marked to avoid swimmers, keeping things smooth and safe.

Walking along the stretch of the beach, you’ll get to see and check out a few stands. Prices and activities vary, and a bit of friendly haggling might get you a sweet deal, too.

Get moving with a bike ride or job by the beach

Other than the nice sandy shores, Jomtien Beach has long stretches of flat pavement perfect for cycling or jogging. You’ll get to feast your eyes on the palm trees and sea views along the route—you’ll get to be in your feels while the wind brushes your face and hair.

You’ll find rental shops and stands offering bicycles by the hour or day. And you can also try to ask your hotel, since some have bikes available for guests, making it easy to start without planning too far ahead.

Not to mention, the pace is calmer here compared to Pattaya, so you can go at your own speed without weaving through too many people or traffic. We also suggest aiming for late afternoon, especially for cycling, since the breeze picks up and the sunset is right around the corner.

Take a boat ride to Koh Larn

Hopping on a boat to explore Koh Larn should also be on your list. Boats to Koh Larn leave regularly from Bali Hai Pier, just a short ride from Jomtien. The ferry ride takes about 30-45 minutes and drops you off near white sand beaches with crystal-clear waters.

We also think the trip to this island is quite worth it—it has vibrant marine life and swimmable bays. You can also rent gear on the island or just enjoy floating in the calmer, clearer waters.

What we also love is that there are local restaurants, beach chairs, and restrooms available, so you can stay comfortable during a full-day visit without needing to pack much. That said, it’s best to catch an early morning ferry to beat the crowds and have more beach space to yourself.

It’s quite evident that compared to busier markets in central Pattaya, Jomtien Night Market feels more relaxed and less chaotic. You’ll also notice locals winding down after work, travelers and tourists browsing at their own pace, and some nice music in the background.

As you walk around, you’ll find stalls that sell all kinds of practical and quirky items, like bathing suits, sunglasses, handmade accessories, T-shirts, souvenirs, and vintage pieces. You can also give haggling a go since most vendors are open to some friendly back-and-forth.

And if you get hungry, the night market is packed with stalls dishing out everything from sizzling grilled seafood to spicy papaya salad, Thai-style omelets, mango sticky rice, and fruit smoothies. We also love how there’s seating near some of the food stalls, so it’s easy to sit down and share plates with friends or family.

You don’t have to worry about food since there are classic Thai street eats like grilled skewers, coconut pancakes, boat noodles, and fresh fruit shakes. You can even go to some spots where they cook right on their boats, adding to the entire floating market experience.

For something a bit different, hop on a paddle boat and cruise past the shops and floating kitchens. It’s a fun, slow-paced ride that lets you take in the full layout of the market from the water—great for photos, too.

Underwater World Pattaya is home to over 2,500 aquatic animals from more than 200 species. We also appreciate how the exhibits are designed to replicate natural habitats, providing an educational and engaging experience for visitors of all ages.

And what’s an aquatic world without a tunnel, right? This place features a 105-meter-long acrylic tunnel that gives you a 180-degree view of marine life swimming overhead and around you. You’ll get to observe sharks, rays, and schools of fish in a neat and cool space.

Not to mention, you can engage with some of the marine creatures like starfish and sea cucumbers at the touch pool. Another thoughtful touch is that their facilities are designed with accessibility in mind: the aquarium has ramps and pathways for strollers and wheelchairs.

Sitting atop Pratumnak Hill, the 18-meter-tall golden Buddha statue at Wat Phra Yai is the largest in the Chonburi province. This magnificent figure is pretty visible from various points in Jomtien and Pattaya, serving as a spiritual beacon for both locals and visitors.

The climb to the temple is marked by a grand staircase flanked by two golden, seven-headed naga serpents. You see, these mythical creatures are rooted in Buddhist and Hindu traditions, which adds a touch of mystique and grandeur to the journey upward.

Also, since this is an active place of worship, the temple grounds feature various smaller Buddha statues, each representing different days of the week, allowing visitors to engage in traditional Thai Buddhist practices.

Khao Chi Chan, aka Buddha Mountain, showcases a striking 109-meter-tall and 70-meter-wide Buddha image etched into a limestone cliff using laser technology and inlaid with gold leaf. It looks as extravagant as it sounds, and this monumental artwork was created in 1996.

We also love how pleasant the surroundings are—the area around the Buddha Mountain offers landscaped gardens and a peaceful atmosphere. That said, the site serves as a place for meditation and religious activities, reflecting Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.

It’s also worth noting that the site is close to other notable attractions, such as the Silverlake Vineyard and Nong Nooch Tropical Garden. Just a heads-up, don’t forget to dress modestly, as the place holds religious significance.

Pupen Seafood is quite popular around the area for—you guessed it—seafood. We love how they don’t hold back on the menu: think grilled fish, crab curry, seafood platters, and even their tom yum soup is made with a spicy and sour soup made with seafood and Thai herbs.

And since it’s along Jomtien Beach, the restaurant offers a casual atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Thanks to its food and beach view seating, both locals and tourists seek this place for a nice meal.

On that note, they can get quite busy during peak hours, so it’s best to book a table in advance. And if you want to finish off with something nice and sweet, head inside and check out their ice cream shop.

Travel Tips for the Best Time in Jomtien Beach

  • Pack sunscreen and a hat – Whether you’re lounging on the beach or just walking along the main road, having sun protection makes a big difference. A light long-sleeve shirt or shawl can help, too.
  • Start your days early – Early mornings and late afternoons are the best times to head out. It’s cooler, less crowded, and perfect for exploring the beach and markets.
  • Getting there from Bangkok is easy – Jomtien’s about a 2-hour drive from Bangkok. You can take a bus from the Ekkamai or Mo Chit terminals, grab a taxi, or book a private transfer. Buses drop off in South Pattaya—a short ride to Jomtien.
  • Respect local customs – If you’re visiting temples, dress modestly and be mindful of your behavior. Covered shoulders, long pants or skirts, and taking off shoes before entering temple buildings.
  • Bring cash – Smaller restaurants, street food stalls, and beach vendors often don’t take cards.
  • Stay hydrated – This is one of the most important things to keep in mind since Thai heat can really get to you even after a short walk outside. Keep a bottle with you—it helps a lot.
