Pros

  • Has more than 100 branches across countries
  • Offers wide range of services
  • Impressive and functional facilities
  • Offers reasonable prices
  • Allows early check-in (subject for approval)

Cons

  • Not kid-friendly
  • Inconsistent hygiene standards

Shangri-La Group owns, operates, and manages over 100 hotels and resorts in 78 countries.

The Shangri-La Bangkok is a charming riverside getaway in the center of Bangkok, nestled next to the most extensive riverbank setting. Upon entering, you will be welcomed with Shangri-La’s heart-warming gestures.

Every room is expected to have a balcony and enjoy the beautiful riverside or city lights. Although the hotel is old, we like that it was well-maintained.

Furthermore, we found that the rooms were clean and quite comfy. However, some previous guests reported that dust was prominent in some spots, causing an allergic reaction.

Nevertheless, the hotel went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable.

We appreciate that the staff was accommodating and let us check in earlier. However, this is subject to permission, so contact the hotel to confirm your schedule.

We also liked that we didn’t have to wait even though we arrived early.

Another great thing about Shangri-La is that its rates were reasonable, given that it’s a well-known hotel with excellent accommodations and renowned service.

It’s also worth mentioning that the hotel provides a wide range of services and has many on-site facilities and amenities for guests to enjoy and use.

However, we discovered that the hotel is not kid-friendly because several areas are unsafe. Furthermore, there were no warning signs or instructions for the guests on the areas unsuited for children.

Pros

  • Has an excellent track record
  • Each room display a distinctive traits
  • Accessible location
  • Has excellent sunset views
  • Clean and well-maintained facilities
  • Has a dining venue with delicious cuisine

Cons

  • Poor soundproofing for some rooms
  • Expensive rates
  • Limited number of facilities and amenities

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group owns and operates some of the world’s most luxurious hotels, resorts, and residences.

The group has expanded from its Asian origins to become a global brand, operating 36 hotels and seven residences in 24 countries and territories. Each reflects their oriental background, local culture, and distinctive style.

Notably, The Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok’s rooms and suites display a distinctive trait due to the harmonious combination of classic Thai design and attractive contemporary accents.

We also like its excellent location, making it easy to enter and exit the city. In addition, its personnel was exceptional, accommodating, and attentive.

The hotel is also well-maintained. However, we must mention that the beds were too firm for our liking.

Additionally, several former guests claimed that certain rooms are poorly soundproofed. As a result, they could practically hear the noises from the hallway and the adjacent rooms.

Although, the things that made our stay memorable at the Mandarin Oriental were the outstanding cuisine and the incredible sunset views from our ensuite balcony.

On the downside, we weren’t impressed with the hotel’s range of services and amenities. Although the hotel itself exudes a sense of luxury, its amenities are limited, which was quite disappointing given the cost.

Because of its luxury status, the nightly rates here are rather pricey. Therefore, if you’re on a limited budget, we advise booking a staycation at a more affordable hotel.

Pros

  • Has accommodating and friendly staff
  • Provides a wide range of complimentary amenities
  • Spacious rooms
  • Has excellent dining options

Cons

  • Can improve furnishings in the rooms
  • Slow room service
  • Limited number of facilities and amenities

Beginning more than three decades ago in San Francisco, the hotel has gone a long way to building its name in the hotel industry.

In addition to operating several acclaimed boutique hotels around the nation, Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok also oversees some similarly intriguing eateries. We say intriguing because they serve dishes that have already been established as classics of the community.

No request is too minor at Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok. We like that they accommodate requests, whether it’s a last-minute need for toiletries (send the reception a WhatsApp message) or a last-minute book to read (borrow a book from the lobby).

We also like the hotel’s outstanding complimentary amenities, such as toiletries, sewing kits, hair tools, and even phone chargers.

The rooms at Kimpton Maa-Lai are spacious. However, they have relatively little furniture, which gives the impression that appearance is more important than comfort.

Additionally, we weren’t thrilled with the hotel’s variety of services and amenities.

While the hotel itself radiates elegance, we found the experience lacking because there weren’t many facilities available.

Even so, the prices were reasonable, plus there were excellent dining options in the hotel, all with delectable menus.

Another thing that might have been better was faster room service. However, we appreciate that the personnel we encountered was generally polite and willing to help.

Regardless, we think Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok is a fantastic choice for a staycation if you’re seeking an elegantly built hotel with reasonable prices.

Pros

  • Family-friendly hotel
  • Offers a wide range of spa and wellness services
  • Offers panoramic views of the magnificent Chao Phraya River
  • Has accommodating and friendly staff
  • Provides different themes for each room
  • Has noteworthy dining options

Cons

  • Limited number of facilities and amenities
  • Inconsistent quality of service

Located on Charoenkrung Road, Capella Bangkok is one of the top luxurious hotels to spending your weekend for a staycation. It is one of the opulent five-star hotels in Bangkok, Thailand, that offers panoramic views of the magnificent Chao Phraya River.

A thing we found impressive is that world-class architects created a masterpiece that is the Capella Bangkok. In addition, we found the hotel’s design memorable because of its modern interpretation of the local culture, which successfully melds the East and West.

The hotel is family-friendly and has various lodging options, including rooms and suites. The 101 rooms, suites, and villas provide a unique view of the beautiful alfresco.

The uninterrupted view of the Chao Phraya river seen from the rooms is another quality that deserves to be mentioned.

We also admire that the in-house dining options serve inventive and reimagined versions of local and traditional Thai cuisine. The staff was also helpful in suggesting a restaurant for any sort of food we wanted.

Also, the hotel has a variety of spa and wellness amenities that will fulfill your needs whether you are a solo visitor, with a family, or as a couple.

However, some previous guests claimed that service and staff during their stay were subpar. Some guests were rudely treated while others were not served at all.

We also weren’t satisfied with the hotel’s range of services and amenities. Although we like that the hotel exemplifies the beauty of nature, we were disappointed that there aren’t many amenities you can enjoy.

Pros

  • Located in an accessible area
  • Has accommodating staff
  • Offers engaging amenities and services
  • Has clean and cozy rooms
  • Provides a great view of the city

Cons

  • Charges extra for staying at higher floors
  • Several reports on inattentiveness to guests staying in standard rooms

The Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is conveniently positioned in Bangkok’s Central Business District, adjacent to several necessary stores such as Chatuchak Weekend Market.

Notably, this five-star hotel in Bangkok features equally luxurious amenities, such as a lavish spa, views of the golf course, and an outdoor pool with floaty cabanas. We especially liked the personal concierge who assisted us with customized tours and specific requests during our stay.

The hotel also provides a complete experience with common spaces conducive to engaging with other guests. Notably, there’s a lounge, fitness center, dining options, and an outdoor swimming pool.

We also admire that the hostel provides cozy, clean accommodations easily accessible to and from the well-known tourist sights and attractions in Bangkok.

On the downside, the average rates per night are not budget-friendly. We also noted that they charge higher rates for rooms on the higher floors.

Additionally, we received several complaints from former guests who received subpar service. Some even mentioned that this may have been because they were only staying in a standard room.

It’s also worth noting that although the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok allows pets, they must be certified as service animals. Furthermore, since many restrictions apply when bringing a service animal, we found the process quite tasking.

Pros

  • Great location
  • Has accommodating staff
  • Various amenities available
  • Excellent staff

Cons

  • Complaints about the noise of the boats

We think there’s no other place that’s perfect for a staycation other than Loy La Long Hotel!

This two-storey, 30 year-old teak house, with a XL deck located on the grounds of Wat Pathumkongk and floating on the Chao Phraya is a great place to unwind and relax.

Its amazing views of the water, sunsets, Bangkokians speeding home on express boats, birds coming home to their nests and more make it a no-brainer choice.

It has 7 different rooms to choose from and we think that each one has its own charm, it just depends on what type of experience you’d like to have.

They have a variety of amenities included when you book a room like breakfast, Smart TV and Netflix, A/C, internet, in-room safe, and more.

Besides the amazing view, its surrounding areas are also worth exploring. There are various restaurants and coffee shops around to try.

They also have various tours you can try like canal tour, bicycle tour, and eating tour. Other places to visit are the Flower Market, Song Wad, and Wat Wat Wat.

Its located in a place with a rich history so we think that lovers of history and culture will have a grand time here.

What’s more is the staff here is amazing and accommodating—really great service.

However, we did come across feedback that the boats on the river, while they make for a great view, can be a bit noisy.

All in all, this quaint place is a gem and worth every baht spent!
