How We Picked the Best Tours in Bangkok

Knowledge

First and foremost, great tours must have well-researched itineraries and guides who are experts in the locations they are touring at.

Professionalism

A great tour also must have a guide that upholds professional standards like punctuality, safety, and being organised and calm in whatever situation.

Communication

The best tours in Bangkok have guides that can effectively communicate with the tour members.

Enthusiasm and attitude

A tour will not be complete without the right mood, greatly affected by its guides’ enthusiasm and overall attitude.

Pros

  • Famous and award-winning tour provider
  • Many types of food tours available
  • Many modes of payment available
  • Friendly and knowledgeable guides
  • 100% Thai-owned and operated

Cons

  • Tours are only in English
  • Some tourists feel a lack of variety

Bangkok Food Tours is a pioneer tour service already known worldwide through numerous international media features. It’s 100% Thai-owned, so we’re proud to have this local brand reach these heights.

This company brings tourists to different parts of Bangkok (and other cities) to sample different cuisines — street food, historical cuisine, or grandma-style cooking. Customers can choose a day or night and multi-day tours, but these are only in English.

Most tours are private and limited to two to eight persons, but there are also tours with crowds as large as 16 people, where joiners or people who travel alone are welcome. The tour guides are also friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable, making the tour tons better.

Its most popular tours are the Historic Bangrak Tour (a.k.a. Thailand’s Best Tour Program Awardee of the Thai government in 2013) and the Bangkok Midnight Food Tour, both of which will make you try famous foods from local restaurants and food shops that have stood the test of time.

Perhaps being a famous tour also has its drawbacks.

Some tourists considered the tour as already ordinary and were looking for a variety and new types of food to try. Moreover, some tourists noticed crowding at the food stops, attributed to other food tour groups in the same areas.

We hope these tours will continue to evolve like the cuisines they showcase.

Pros

  • Award-winning tour
  • Well-organised
  • Fee already includes boat ride and food
  • Guides speak excellent English

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Seeing the local lifestyle might not be pleasing for some tourists

Another good experience that you can have in Bangkok is a boat tour. If you plan to do so, you can check out Pandan Tour.

This company has won Tripadvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for five consecutive years (2011 to 2016). It also boasts a long list of satisfied clients, old and new, including the Ambassador of Denmark to Thailand.

Pandan Tour offers boat tours all across Bangkok. Tourists visit the city’s floating markets, smaller canals, and Buddhist temples.

The main selling point of Pandan Tours’ offerings is that these centre on the local lifestyle and take you away from tourist traps, so think twice if you’re looking for famous places.

It’s a little pricey, costing around THB 2,000 to 2,500 per person a day depending on the tour, but we think it’s worthwhile.

Pandan Tour is very transparent on the pricing. It clearly states whatever is included in your fees, like the tour guide’s transportation costs going to the tour’s starting point, your insurance, food, or a van to pick you up from your hotel.

You can quickly pay your tour fee via PayPal in advance or cash on the day of the tour.

Pandan Tours’ guides are superstars since they are English-speaking, very witty, humorous, and knowledgeable about the tour itinerary. One excellent guide’s name that came up frequently during our talk with past customers is Ms. Nui.

Pros

  • 100% private tour
  • Very professional and intuitive guide that speaks English
  • Travel in an air-conditioned and modern van
  • Many tour packages available

Cons

  • Premium pricing
  • Does not answer phone calls when on tour

Not everyone enjoys a tour with total strangers. That’s where Mandy’s Bangkok Guide Smile comes in.

Bangkok Guide Smile is a private tour provider in Bangkok owned and operated by its only tour guide, Mandy. She’s popular since she’s one of Tripadvisor’s Traveler’s Choice awardees for 2022.

Mandy has many itineraries available for tourists, as seen on her website. She guides solo travellers, couples, families, or other groups through temples, markets, and other tourist spots.

Members of her tours travel comfortably between stops via an air-conditioned van. Rules and regulations of her tours are well-detailed on her website, so the conduct of her business is very orderly.

Many of her clients love her well-curated itineraries, timeliness, intuitiveness, and adaptability. She treats each tour member with utmost attention and care, much like one treats a beloved friend.

The only real downside to Bangkok Guide Smile is its price. Since its tours are private (or perhaps even like VIP treatment), these are pricier than average.

For inquiries, it’s best to reach Mandy using her site’s contact page; she answers customer inquiries via email within 24 hours. Although she has a phone line, she does not answer calls since she is, most of the time, in the middle of a tour.

Pros

  • Many types of bike tours/locations available
  • Tour is in small groups
  • Guides speak good English
  • Reasonable rates
  • Tour guides explain very well
  • Tour fee includes food costs

Cons

  • Not for tourists who aren’t that physically active
  • Difficulty with getting photos of the tour from the guide

If you want to see a new side of Bangkok, then Go Bangkok Bike Tours might be the one for you.

It offers day and night bicycle and e-scooter tours at reasonable rates. So if you’re not that physically active, be ready to sweat it out on tour day.

It has plenty of tour packages to choose from, with each being a different area in Bangkok. The shortest tour lasts for about 2 hours, while the longest one takes the whole day or 8 hours.

This is a very intimate tour that travels in tiny groups of five or six people. So you’ll get to know both your tour guide and the places you’re going to very well.

Go Bangkok Bike Tours cares about your well-being since there’s a safety video or orientation before each tour, and the tour guides have first aid kits. The tour fee also includes the cost of food.

There’s just one downside. Since it’s a bike tour, regular tourists would have difficulty taking pictures alone, so the tour guide does it.

If you do not communicate that well with your tour guide about the photos taken during your tour, you may not be able to get a copy of them.

Pros

  • Well-organised tour
  • Snacks are provided
  • No hidden fees
  • Has a variety of tour options
  • Enthusiastic tour guides

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Fast-paced
  • Nothing much explained in the tour

Co van Kessel Tours specialises in providing bicycle, boat, train, and walking tours. The shortest offering it has is a two-hour walking tour of Bangkok’s Chinatown, while its most extensive tour is a 9-hour, all-day bicycle, boat, and train tour of Bangkok.

There is no doubt about the professionalism of Co van Kessel tour guides. The management is also very organised, starting with its aesthetically pleasing website.

Co van Kessel Tours’ overall quality is generally excellent. But it does come with a few downsides.

For one, most customers we’ve talked to told us that the bike tours of the “real” Bangkok are fast-paced and too overrated and expensive compared to competing tour agencies.

Customers felt as if they were borderline trespassing on people’s homes, they were merely passing by nondescript neighbourhoods, and tour guides did not explain stuff. However, the overall attitude of the tour guides is excellent.

Food is already provided on tour; however, the quality also varies. Some customers told us they only got chips and soda, while others were luckier to have fresh fruit.

Nevertheless, Co van Kessel Bangkok is a reputable and legitimate tour agency that can give you a tour of Bangkok without rose-coloured glasses.

Their team has tons of experience in being a private tour guide, and it definitely shows in the amount of knowledge they impart to you. Aside from letting you enjoy the experience itself, they tell you all about the history about certain spots.

We also appreciate that they let you immerse yourself in the culture of Bangkok, Thailand. Canal tours aren’t the only thing they’re known for, though, since they can also provide you with walking and bus tours.

Compared to other establishments, we appreciate that they offer a lot more deals. They offer benefits to past guests and people who simply want to book with them early. How great is that?

Plus, their online reviews have simply raved about how accommodating and friendly their guide was. Though this type of tour is a bit shorter than others, all in all, we would definitely recommend them!

  • Organized tours
  • Offers tours with different time slots

Cons

  • Some complaints regarding communication

Bangkok Walking Tour offers (you guessed it) walking tours right in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. Their guide will show you all the different sights to see in the area and tell you about each one’s relevance to their country’s history.

Since their staff has more than 16 years of experience in the industry, you can be sure that they definitely know what they’re talking about.

They also have a range of walking tours you can choose from, with almost daily time slots for you to pick! Now, you won’t have to worry about one not fitting into your itinerary plans.

Past reviews have even emphasized how organized everything was, which is definitely something you’re looking for when it comes to overseas trips.

However, there have been some comments about difficulty in communication. This is primarily due to the language barrier, though, but it was still pretty easily overcome.

All in all, we definitely recommend them for your next trip to Bangkok!

Pros

  • Provides tourists with a unique experience
  • Helps you taste different street food

Cons

  • Some complaints regarding prices
  • Only offers night tours

Tuk tuk is a form of transformation that is unique only to Thailand. They may seem simple, but it’s definitely a must for you to try if you’re in the area.

Luckily Bangkok TUK TUK Tour can help you accomplish this! They allow you to roam the streets of Bangkok and taste all the street foods that everyone’s raving about.

It is important to note that they only offer night tours, though, so it may be difficult to fit into your itinerary if ever you’re mostly free in the evenings.

Aside from this, we’ve heard complaints of some of the riders raising the fair prices more than the standard.

Overall, though there are some concerning things we’ve heard about the quality of service they offer, we would recommend them for those who can talk their way through more difficult situations.
