Rot Fai Park is an urban birdwatching paradise right in the heart of Bangkok. It’s a stunning public park with a serene natural setting, diverse wildlife, sports facilities, and a looped jogging and bike trail.
Officially known as Wachirabenchathat Park, Rot Fai Park, or Train Park, it is a recognizable attraction thanks to the old train carriages near its entrance. It is also accessible from anywhere in Bangkok, close to an MRT train station.
In the capital where you could easily get buried with work, Rot Fai Park is a treasure trove that won’t require you to go far for a day trip. It’s certainly worth considering if you want to experience the beauty of nature without leaving the city’s comforts!
Where is Rot Fai Park?
Rot Fai Park is in the east end of the Chatuchak neighborhood in Bangkok. It’s bounded by Queen Sirikit Park in the south, Sirat Expressway in the west, and Kamphaeng Phet 3 Road, and Chatuchak Park in the east.

How to Get to Rot Fai Park
MRT: The standard way to get to Rot Fai Park is to board the MRT to Chatuchak Park station.
Exit the train station to Chatuchak Park which is right next to Rot Fai Park. These parks are just separated by Kamphaeng Phet 3 Road.
Taxi: The most convenient way to get to Rot Fai Park is to book a taxi ride via the Bolt or Grab app for Android and iOS. Your booked taxi will pick you up from any location in the city and then take you directly to the park’s entrance.

Rot Fai Park’s serene atmosphere makes it ideal for pleasant strolls and morning or afternoon jogs. Here, you can explore a vast grassy field with lines of trees, colorful flower fields, charming lakes, numerous photo spots, and more.
This park is also pet-friendly, so it’s a great place to take your beloved fur babies for a regular walk while you’re around this part of Bangkok. There’s also a traffic simulation attraction that you can explore to learn about Thailand’s road signs and traffic rules.

Rot Fai Park is one of the more popular picnicking spots in the Chatuchak neighborhood. Its large grassy field and cool tree shades are perfect for setting up a picnic with your family or friends.
Moreover, the park’s relaxing atmosphere makes it ideal for the activities people do while picnicking. Think eating snacks, reading books, taking naps, playing board games, and more.
There are plenty of public benches scattered around the park as well, so you don’t have to worry about finding a place to sit if you don’t bring a picnic blanket.

Cycling is a popular activity in Rot Fai Park. In fact, there’s a convenient bike rental service at the park’s entrance so you don’t have to bring your own.
There’s also a designated 2-kilometer hot bitumen bicycle track around the park, so cyclists can enjoy cycling around without pedestrians or cars getting in their way.
Head to Rot Fai Park’s Sports Center

Rot Fai Park is a haven for fitness and sports junkies. This place has a sports center where visitors can work out and do sports activities like tennis, basketball, sepak takraw, and swimming.
The Sports Center’s fitness gym, in particular, is great for working out because it’s fully equipped with weights and numerous cardio training machines.
Just know that not all their facilities are free to use. For instance, their swimming pool, fitness gym, and tennis courts require a membership fee.

The Bangkok Butterfly Garden and Insectarium is a sizable garden covering an area of 9,600 square meters. This dome-shaped facility is filled with lush vegetation and small artificial streams and waterfalls.
Inside, you can observe how a wide range of butterflies and insects behave in their natural habitat. Their exhibits are also a great way to learn about the life cycles of these critters so it’s definitely a must-see for insect enthusiasts.

Rot Fai Park is well-known among animal enthusiasts and hobbyists in Bangkok. This place boasts a wide range of urban wildlife, from monitor lizards to owls, squirrels, turtles, and more.
It’s also one of the best birdwatching spots in the city. You can observe over 200 local and migratory bird species here, like great egrets, Chinese pond herons, Asian barred owlets, etc.
Ride a duck boat or kayak at the park’s lake

The large lake in Rot Fai Park’s north end is most popular among couples and families. There, visitors can ride 2-person duck boats and kayaks to cruise around the lake for up to 30 minutes.
It’s also a free service so you only need to register and fall in line to get your chance. However, the queue is usually long so we recommend coming here early if you dislike long waits.
Plus, registration is only available until 5 to 5:30 p.m. so queueing up in the afternoon isn’t ideal.

Chatuchak Weekend Market is just south of Queen Sirikit Park, so you can reach it from Rot Fai Park after a 4-minute drive. This weekend market has over 15,000 stalls which sell antiques, clothes, street food, pets, and more.
It’s also worth noting that this weekend market is also partially open from Wednesday to Friday. The market’s plant section is accessible on Wednesdays and Thursdays while the wholesale section is open on Fridays.
